Bernie began as a young goaltender in the late 60’s at the age of 12 playing without a mask.  As “cage masks” turned to “fiberglass molded” masks, he was a goaltender at Mount Saint Charles Academy and then on to Providence College in Rhode Island in the early 70’s.  He then played amateur hockey for the Rhode Island Ringers for one season.  He continued to coach and teach instructional hockey in the New England area for over 11 years.  In 1984, he later moved to Durham, North Carolina and played for the Raleigh Ice Caps for two seasons (Goalie of the year in 1980 with a 1.21 GAA and 1.86 GAA in 1984).  After moving to Tampa, Florida in 1992, he founded U.S. Club Hockey (a privately funded hockey club) with 16 teams and over 1,000 players in 12 states.  He also founded “Club Zero” (an organization with members in over 200 young goaltenders nationwide) and ran goalie camps throughout the United States.  In addition to being a goalie coach for several teams in the Southeast, he started Sunbelt Hockey Scouting in 2003 to enable players to have more opportunities to play Junior and Minor League Hockey or attend college.  Bernie currently lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife Anne and three children.  He is proud to be a member of the Philadelphia Thunder and the UJHL Scouting team.
